Using repeaters like Ikea Tradfri with ZHA integration

Hi there!

I am really close to losing my mind with the Zigbee ZHA Integration - or more precisely - Aqara devices.

Just the Aqara devices worked rather well with the integration, using a Sonos Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus. Of course except for one vibration sensor mounted im our mailbox to detect mail arrival. After all it’s a metal cage, I had almost expected that.

I thought - no problem, IKEA Tradfri repeaters are cheap, I can use those to get closer to the mailbox than the dongle. Went to IKEA, got two of them (one extra, just in case…) and while I was there I also picked up one of their motion sensors.

Pairing wotked like a charm, but the Ikea products seem to have developed their own little group…

The motion sensor always connects to one of the repeaters (that’s okay, since it is closer to a repeater than to the dongle) BUT neither of the Aqara sensors connect to any one of the repeaters. Even adding Aqara straight to the repeaters does not work, they don’t get discovered.

I have tried several suggestions from a reddit post - unplugging the dongle for an hour or more, re - pairing the Aqara sensors after the repeaters had been set up - neither of those helped.

My Mailbox vibration sensor ist still offline most of the time and after a few times going on- and offline, it decides to remain offline permanently until I delete it from the integration and re - pair through it.

Does anybody have a solution for that? I really don’t know what to do anymore…!

Hi @thorsten0909. Delayed reply, but did you get this working? I have 2 tradfri repeaters to help with my aquara sensors and it’s worked reasonably well.

Getting aquara to pair to tradri instead of another unsupported repeater can be a challenge. I have to hold the aquara device right next to the tradfri and try to re-pair a handful of times.
