Using Wall Tablet Instead of Alarm Keypad

I am considering using a wall mounted Fire HD 8 in place of my alarm keypad so I can have one tablet with everything on it. I am currently integrating my Honeywell Vista 20P with my HA via alarm decoder. My integration is working great but I’m curious if there is a way to emulate entry and exit delay countdowns when coming and going. Ideally it would automatically switch to my security keypad dashboard and show a countdown. Has anyone ever done anything similar to this? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

done that pretty much, though I’ve “locked” the tablet to only show the lovelace tab with the keypad (don’t want potential intruders or guests messing about my HA)
I’m using FullyKiosk on the tablet to lock the view on the first tab, where the keypad is.
That tab also has a conditional card that only shows open doors / windows so I know I have to close them before inputing the alarm code.
Looks like this for now (still need to complete my wiring to hide the cable in the wall)

You can find my config here:

Consider to use Alarm panel (https://thanksmister.com/android-mqtt-alarm-panel/)
I has additional features that you could use. For example use the camera from tablet as stream, play sounds and TTS messages trough the panel. I am using this for more then a year with succes.

There is also an other project wall-panel maintained by the same developer.

Have a look at his forum: https://community.thanksmister.com/

This is very interesting. I am using an IOS app in an old iPad 1 to control my HAI system. I am looking in a my new home to replace them with Home Assistant on a keypad but ideally I would like the tablet to dim or go to sleep until woken up by, a touch on the screen, or an alarm being triggered, or I have when a zone is tripped it will show a camera from a particular area for 2 minutes and then switch back to the main screen.

Any thoughts on If this is reasonably doable?

Thanks!

Neil

Android tablet with Fully Kiosk.
It does everything you want

I thought I read here that kindle fire tablets aren’t so hot. Is that still the case?

Thanks!

Neil

not sure what you mean by “aren’t so hot”
I have a Fire 7 which, for the purpose of what I need (display HA with Alarm keypad via Fully Kiosk, front Camera as CCTV), works well, and does not get hot.
You can defo find a newer fire table that’s more powerful, or get any other android one (Lenovo, Samsung), it all depends on your budget to be honest.

Oh sorry when I said not so hot I mean (not a good idea, figurative HOT). I thought in reading people said the Fully Kiosk is an issue on the Amazon shop? Things change so quickly that it might have been a dated comment?

Thanks!

Neil

OK I wasn’t sure. But like I said I have no issues with mine.
Yes There are ads on it, but since the tablet is always on via FK, I don’t see them. Even after a reboot (something that rarely happens), FK automatically starts.
It could be a bit more powerful but for the purpose of just displaying a static HA page with a keypad, it’s perfectly fine.
If you wanted to display a camera feed, then get a newer tablet or opt for a different brand (at higher price)

Cool thanks! I got fully kiosk installed on my Fire HD 8 Generation 7 and it seems to work A-OK initially. I will play with this but it looks nice!

i have a weird thing happening. I restarted the tablet and I set the option to login with the username and password - and it didn’t. So now I go to type in the username and password - it doesn’t type? Nothing shows up in there. Seems weird? Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Neil

I know that this is an older thread, so not sure if anyone will see this. I have a similar set up as you have above. I have 3 Fire tablets that replace my legacy alarm keypads. One of my lovelace cards is the alarm panel to arm/disarm my home assistance instance. Everything works fine. However, the “default” alarm panel card produces a VERY small keypad. Yours seems to be much larger, but I can’t figure out where/how to edit to make more appropriately sized. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance.

Set the zoom size to 150%. That’s what I’ve done and it fits perfectly

Thanks for the prompt reply. So just to be clear (I am a new to Home Assistant) you are referring to a setting on the tablet itself? There is not a “zoom” size setting within Home Assistant? Obviously, this would work. However, the downside, is that then that the zoom applies to all of the other cards within the Dashboard. I liked the “size” for my other cards - light controls etc., but the Alarm Panel is most important. So I will probably just the “Zoom” and then break the other cards up into multiple cards.

Thanks again.

Yes that’s the setting on the tablet indeed and yes it’ll apply to all cards

just wondering if FullyKiosk and Alarm Panel would play nicely together or if they’re kinda mutually exclusive as they do much the same thing?

That’s exactly what I’m using. Fully Kiosk, with a lovelace that only displays the alarm panel:

I also use kiosk mode to only show the lovelace view and no headers / menus

thanks. hmmm. I’ve got that working just wishing there was a way of having the buttons be bigger and the whole thing have less white space. More like Android Alarm Panel

Depends on what needs to be displayed underneath / in total.
I’ve set my “Initial Scale” to 150% so it fits the screen nicely in portrait mode
What card do you use for your pin input? I take it the 57 is the number of secs before the alarm triggers?

hiya - yeah that’s Android Alarm Panel that I was showing as an example of what I’d like my lovelace panel to look like. I think 57 seconds until the alarm is triggered. It’s in a pending state. Thanks
