Using X10 with Home Assistant

I still rely om X10 Devices. My primary interface is the W800RF. There is supposed to be a integration with HA. When I follow the guidance in the documentation and as the follow to configuration.yaml and restart the supervisor , I am no longer able to access via port 8123

Example configuration.yaml entry

w800rf32:
device: /dev/tty.usbserial-A4007TsQ

I have te restore a snap shot. from prior to the change to the configuration.yaml

Can any one point me to a guide on this matter? There seems to be more success with Heyu but that requiires, gasp. , more hardware.

thanks

Is that a copy-paste error or does it actually look like that?

Because it should look more like this (note the indentation):

w800rf32:
  device: /dev/tty.usbserial-A4007TsQ

Whenever you modify the contents of configuration.yaml, you should execute Configuration > Server Controls > Check Configuration and ensure it reports no errors. If you don’t, and restart Home Assistant with a configuration error, it may be unable to startup properly (and the result is “I am no longer able to access via port 8123”).

thanks for the info. 1). that was a cut and paste error… but I have no option to “Check Configuration”

In Home Assistant’s left-hand menu, click your Profile icon (last icon on the bottom) and enable Advanced Mode:

I did. and the configuration checks. (I had the advanced mode several snapshots ago) and I keep losing connectivity. I may be expected too much from this integration

Different location same type but different machine. I have the following in configuration.yaml

w800rf32:
  device: /dev/serial/by-path/pci-0000:00:06.0-usb-0:2:1.0-port0
binary_sensor:
  - platform: w800rf32
    devices:
      b5:
        name: motion_drive_spot

No errors I get an entity for b5 device but no states (I hope I am saying that right

Any thoughts from x110 users would be appreciated

Hi, just joined (a bit late to the party) and I’m trying Home Assistant for the 1st time and wasn’t sure where to post this.

Installed HA on an Intel NUC type PC as a virtual machine under Virtual Box. I managed to get a couple of Zwave devices working but I have an assortment of X10 devices already working in my house and thought I’d try to bring them into HA. I have spent about a week on and off trying to get the X10 working, with no success. I have the CM11 connected through a USB to serial cable and Active Home Pro works reliably with this device.
Once I have the Zwave working in HA, I add the config.yaml code, X10 broker, gateway and MQTT which breaks the Zwave functionality. If I remove the gateway or broker, Zwave starts working again. I’ve read multitudes of postings, have tried many posted suggestions and still no go. I’ve looked at logs and they seem to be OK. I’ve probably tried over 100 variations. Does anyone have any ideas that might help with the X10 integration? I’m happy to answer detail questions that may be important. Thanks for any help that you can offer which would be much appreciated.

Just to let you know some one read your post. I was heavily invested in x10 and have found no way to get it to work… I have a W800RF32. USB and a Smarthome powerlink USB dual band 2413U modem. I am on 100 /50htz electrical system so I am not sure that the moem even works. I have tried and I have neither x-10 or instead. In the states I have a 2413U and I have W800rf USB and I have insteon but no x 10 I have pretty much assumed that iX-10 has passed away. I will miss it

Thanks! The thing I don’t want to lose by moving away from x10 is the handy 16 device remote controls and the other convenient smaller ones. I was hoping to capture the signals from the remotes through the CM11 and assign these in HA to other newer devices like Z-Wave, Zigbee, etc. so I could keep that X10 infrastructure in place and also mix in the newer tech. I can’t seem to find any newer tech devices to replace the functionality of those 16 device remotes. Maybe something is out there but I haven’t found it yet, does anyone know of anything similar?

I have seen some z wave remotes advertised. but with death of my x 10 devices. I lost a lot what was controlling remotely… Not sure too sure about trying that as I have found that not all z-wave ar created equal …There seems to be some drift in the “standard”
