Utility meter changes

Hi,

I suggest to move utility_meter in to the sensor domain. The main reason is actually the front end. I like to use a sensor card for my utility meter. In general I believe it would become more flexible as more things are done for sensors than utilities.

Second issue: Last night, for the first time my home assistant died, without me fiddling with it. I just pulled the power and it went up. I believe there could be a bit more resiliance built in, in this case I’m using a shelly 3EM for power. As the 3EM didn’t hung it has all the data, when I look in the sensors feeding the utilities I have they have stepped on as nothing happened, but the utility_meter lost the data. I believe with some redesign the utility meter could recover to the current state, even if the data during the failure is lost.

Best Regards

You can use template sensors to pull in the state and/or attributes of the utility_meter. Then you get the best of both worlds

Hi, I did do that as a work-around, it’s just so clean to have two entities with exactly the same content.
