Velux Active (HomeKit accessory) control via Home Assistant?

Do you mind sharing pros and cons of each solution?
Do they read the current position, rain sensor and light?

Is it possible to control blinds with KLF200?

I use the KIX300 with Home Assistant and find it (nearly) flawless. I have 3 Velux windows and 2 blinds. It reads and controls the positions of these blinds and windows without any problems. It also reads the 2 sensors I have so I could control the windows using Home Assistant automations, but find Velux does this pretty well itself, the only exception being that I open the windows in the bedrooms to vent position once the children are asleep and before they normally wakeup to keep the air quality high.

My only problem is that sharing the windows back to Apple Home through HomeKit only shows one as a window, the others appear and blinds. This makes voice control through Siri difficult as it doesn’t register them as windows. The window motors are at different firmware versions, so I don’t know whether this contributes.

Great to hear - it seems the way to go.

Do you use the HomeKit integration to connect the KIX 300 to Home Assistant? I can’t see any other official integration. Is it local or cloud?

Hello,
I am using latest Home Assistant and have purchased a new Velux roof window. I have paired using homekit normally and I can see my Velux integra root window inside home assistant and control it. Which is great.

However, I am missing information from rain sensor that is integrated inside roof window, is it raining currently or not. I have checked JSON from download diagnostics and do not see the info.
Is this limitation from Velux, and where to contact them, to make the sensor information available on the HomeKit.

In parallel, when using Android app from Velux, I can see sensor status there, so sensor is working.

Is this Home Assistant / HomeKit issue about missing rain sensor, or velux gateway issue about not showing the sensor inside homekit protocol ? Thank you

today my velux shutter entities stopped syncing with HA, i just realized it when i was trying to operate the shutters but they didn’t move…

anyone experienced the same?

i’m really a noob for this, how can i repair it?

EDIT: i see now, log says ‘‘this entity is not supported by homekit_integration anymore’’ or something like that

in integrations setting i see it tries to connect ‘‘Timeout while waiting for connection to device 192.zzz.y.xxx:5001’’, but unsuccessful… :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

what can i do now??? plz help!

Hope this will be helpful to someone:

Today received a KIG300 to control two shutters. I could install the gateway in the Velux Active App and control the shutters with the Velux app. I could also control the shutters with the Apple Home app on my Iphone.

But I could not add the shutters to HA, I got the error message “No unpaired devices could be found”

Then I deleted the Gateway from the Apple Home app and then the “VELUX Gateway” suddenly appeared in the HA Homekit Controller to configure. After configuration the shutters can be controlled from HA.

I found the tip to delete gateway form Apple Home app here: Home Kit Devices Not showing in Home Assistant ,

That’s the issue: HomeKit devices cannot be paired to more than one controller (hence the “no unpaired devices could be found” error). So you have to remove them from the Home app on iOS, possibly reset them (device-dependent), then add them to HA.

Right, HomeKit devices can only be paired to one Home (and in this case you want the Velux paired to the Home Assistant controller), however, Home Assistant lets you share them back out to Apple HomeKit using the HomeKit integration. This allows them to be used in both, and has worked great for me for the past couple of years.

Looping back to this comment, I just went through moving these from HomeKit direct to HA controller and ran into the same issue. Then I found you can change the show as to correctly identify it as a window in Home. Not sure if this is a new feature but I thought I should share for the next person.

Hi,

I also have a KIG 300 to control 4 blinds and 1 window. It’s working inside the Velux Active App and also in Apple HomeKit. I understood I need to remove the Apple HomeKit configuration in the Velux App and I need to “reset” the gateway to be found by Home Assistant again.

I tried to change only the WiFi settings in the gateway, hoping that it is beeing detected by HA again but nope. :frowning:

I really had some trouble to get the devices working in the Velux Active App, so I’m hoping someone has an idea to get the gateway detected in HA without doing a complete hard reset of the gateway.

Thanks in advance for your help.

@nyri81 - I just did this recently. Do the following:

  • In Apple Home app, remove the Gateway from the HomeKit home (Home Settings, Home Hubs & Bridges)
  • On the gateway device, hold the gear button on the back until the light blinks red, then release the button and press it one more time to confirm. This will reset the wifi settings on the gateway (but not the device pairings)
  • Go the the Velux Active App and choose Settings > Gateway > Setup Wifi and follow the steps
  • Once Wifi is setup, go to Home Assistant > Settings > Devices and you should see a HomeKit Controller discovery option for the Velux Gateway. Configure it and you should be good to go!

If you want to add them back into Apple Home as well, you can use the HomeKit Bridge integration in Home Assistant for that.

Thanks. I’ll see if that changes the behaviour in Home

I have 2 Velux and planning to add blinds ( VELUX DML MK06 1025 Electric Blackout Blind - White | Roofing Outlet )

I was advised to buy the ‘KLF 200’ for remote control.
Over here I can see others like the

  • KIG 300
  • KIX 300

What should I take to get the most of it with HA, and what is the difference?

KLF 200 is an interface receiving signals from other-than-velux-products in order to control velux products (e.g. velux shutters close when your security system sends an alert), it kinda translates the language of communication used by different systems

KIG 300 is a hub/gateway used for full wireless control (e.g. close remote controllable blinds over wifi)

KIX 300 is a set consisting of 1pc hub and 2pcs remote controls

This is how I integrated it last time, working on a new HA instance now and for the life of me I cannot get it to work. Difference is I was on HAOS now on Container, wondering if it could be a port issue…

Thanks for the pointers!! Everything worked well until I tried (am still trying tbh) to add the gateway to HA via HomeKit integration…

HA gets stuck at “Please wait, starting configuration wizard for the integration” and nothing happens! If I configure HomeKit natively, I can add the bridge and import accessories natively, however they don’t perform well under HomeKit and are unresponsive whilst they are spot on onto their VELUX native app…

I’m a bit lost as I’d like to control, integrate and automate those VELUX devices (28) with HA.

Can anybody help please?

THX, NW4FUN

Just did that now after a migration from a HAOS on a pi to the docker version running on Ubuntu on a mini pc; worked like a charm.

Thanks a lot!

Is it possible to simulate a VELUX sensor ?

I have a VELUX integra window in each room.

But I don’t wanna plaster each room with redundant sensors, VELUX temperature sensor, a floor heating sensor etc.

But I like the VELUX automations, so if I could create a virtual VELUX room sensor and get the data from my existing room sensors into that.

Hello everyone, I’m a bit lost. I’m trying to integrate the KIG 300 (app control) gateway into HA.
How did I start? I did configure the gateway and the first shade (SSL solar shade) via the velux app and it worked.

Then I did reset the gateway, configured wifi via the velux app and added the gateway in HA via homekit integration.
I did detect the shade, but it has no connection.

Now two questions:

  1. How can I fix the device with the broken connection?
  2. How can I add another two shades (SML with KUX 110)? Do I need to reset the gateway, connect it to the velux app, add both shades there and then reset the gateway again, connect it to wifi and re-add it to HA?

I can’t remember all the troubles I went through in detail, but I ended up setting up the KIG 300 as Homekit device (including all shades) and then from HA I created a switch (‘shades target state’) which I exposed to Apple Home. When my HA sensors (temperature, luminosity, weather) show that the shades should close, I set the target state to on. In Apple Home I then have a simple automation that will control all shades depending on the state of this switch.

What I’m hoping for is that work on GitHub - Velocet/iown-homecontrol: io-homecontrol documentation & implementation progresses and we can simply ignore the Velux app and the cloud and control the shades directly.

In case someone has a waterproof description on how to natively integrate the KIG 300 into HA, I’m interested too. I don’t have room for errors as the reset button on my shades is inside the motor, so I cannot access that without climbing on the roof (which I won’t do).
