Very newbie questions on adding Z-Wave to HA in a docker container on Synology NAS

Hello!

I’m very new to HA, migrating from Smartthings. I have HA running on a Synology NAS in a docker container. I added an 800-series Zooz Z-wave stick to the front USB port of the NAS, and I did get the NAS to recognize the stick. Now I’m trying to follow the directions here: Z-Wave JS UI. My problem is, though, that I honestly don’t know which of the installation options to choose—using volumes, local folder or as a service? Or should I grab the docker image from the NAS GUI? Also, should I be using JS UI or zwavejs2mqtt?

I also tried the directions here: Tutorial: ZWave-JS migration on Synology using Docker - applicable to other hosts - Z-Wave - Home Assistant Community but my setup gave me more options than the tutorial did, so I got stuck again.

I know this is a very newbie question, but as of right now I have two browsers with upward of 20 tabs each open with forum threads, tutorials and so on, and I feel as though I’m rapidly disappearing down the rabbit hole… If anyone can point me toward an updated, working tutorial, that would be a huge help, also. I’m also very new to SSH and Terminal, but I’m trying…! Thank you!

Not really an answer to your question so feel free to ignore. But if you are a newbie without much experience with docker and its configuration, you might find it a whole lot easier to run haos in a Synology virtual machine. I’m a 50nyear experienced programmer and still find running it that way is just much less of a pain. All the add on installation stuff just works, as do the later updates.

No, no, I appreciate all the advice. I did look into that, but unfortunately, I can only do VM if my drives were btrfs, which they’re not. There is more data in those drives than I have spaces to store them, and I can’t change to btrfs without reformatting the drives.
I am, however, thinking that it may be easier to run a VM on the gaming PC my husband and I built our children last year…we do run a couple of Minecraft servers on it, but that should still leave enough capacity for HA. I’d just need to make sure the kids know never to turn it off…
