Virtual Box - CPU Cores

hello people.

I have been fiddling around for a long time now.
But I have not come to any solution…

I have a Home Assistant OS VM running on a Windows machine via Virtual Box.
Now I have added some Addons.
So now it would be good if I can add a CPU core to the VM.

However, as soon as I have 2 cores, home assistant behaves totally unresponsive and throws a bunch of “stall on CPU” Error. Most of the time it doesn’t finish the starting process, and it gets stuck in the different ares. Starting CLI, Starting Docker Engine, Starting Supervisor etc…

I also changed a lot in the virtual hardware settings.
But nothing helped.

Is there any way to troubleshoot it, or do you guys encountered the same issue while adding CPU cores?

For me, the last working vBox setup was HAOS 7.6 with vBox build .30.

I had so many problems with HA on vBox; last month I moved to VMWare.

What a difference both in stability and speed.

Thanks for your quick answer  .
I’ve also read that there are some performance issues with vBox in general.

Did you set up a new machine or just move the VDI to VMWare?
And do you know if it is possible in VMWare to mount a USB device outside an open session?

I used the .vmdk for VMWare. I believe these were my steps…

  1. Perform a FULL system HA Backup; shutdown HA and vBox (DO NOT uninstall yet)
  2. Installed MMWare Player and setup per these instructions
  3. Setup USB devices using these instructions
NOTE: You can use the vBox USB Filter settings for the necessary Vendor and Product ID keys (instead of having to root through reg keys)
  4. Startup the new HA VMWare instance and recover from backup.

If you used by_id in HA for your USB devices, everything should be seamless.

Why it is not soled by HA?

Or is here something new how to solved this?

Because this is not a HA problem, but a VB issue

But VMware is a bit harder to set up and a lot more stable
