VMware ESXi - modify working HA vm

Hi there.
First off I followed this guide https://community.home-assistant.io/t/installing-home-assistant-on-vmware-player-17/570428
and everything is functioning great. I’ve added a lot of stuff to HA and now I would like to beef up the cpu, ram, and hdd size.

Does anyone have experience changing these values in esxi. CPU and RAM is easy enough. But how do I increase the hard drive up from 32GB? If I figure out how to increase the hdd does the HA OS automatically make that space available or is there a partition like cmd that needs to used?

Is this even the proper method or should I somehow take a full backup and restore on a new VM that has my desired specs?

One more thing, does anyone know how to move a vm to another data store on the same esxi host. I think I’ve done it before but bonus points if you can provide some instructions.

Thanks for all the help !

PS. New to the forums but I’m also trying to make an automation in yaml mode and getting an error. Can someone point me to the right section to post that question?

Shut the vm down, increase the disk size, boot it back up. Look into Veeam if you want a good and easy way to do backups.

Storage migration. Right click vm, migrate.

If you are not using vcenter you might need to do the file movement from datastore to datastore manually.

Sorry don’t quite know how to quote easily on mobile.

Thanks aceindy. I’ll make a post there soon.

And thank you fleskefjes! Seems like they’ve made it a lot easier than it used to be. Guess I should’ve mentioned I’m using esxi 8. And no sorry I don’t have vcenter, so I’ll have to do it the manual way. Also thanks for the backup recommendation. I actually needed a good solution for that. Do you know if Veeam will still work without vcenter?

Yes it will. I am assuming you are not using ESXi free since that is deprecated (it won’t work with free).

Right. I’m a vmug member. All good. Thanks for your help today
