It’s crazy. You can select 500 exposed entities and “un-expose” them. But you have to add them back ONE AT A TIME. Use the same exposure interface to be able to search for, say, “all lights”, and enable a mass-selection to expose them all. See the added selection box in this picture. That would solve it!
@petro, what you highlighted only seems to act on the currently exposed entities. I screwed up earlier and selected all entities and hit unexpose
, not thinking about it. That list is now blank and the only way i have found to add the entities is by clicking on the button at the bottom to expose entities
and add them one by one. I have 800+ entities to add…
I doubt exposing all entities is a good idea…
… so maybe it was left out to save users from themselves.
Oh, i know that, but it is much easier to select the ones i want to unexpose than the ones to expose because the exposed ones allow for a lot more filtering of the list. Just my $0.02…
@petro I think you are wrong. How do you select all of a search type and hit an expose button? I don’t think you read my ask accurately.
I did, y’all just aren’t looking at the UI correctly.
Expose or unexpose multiple entities. Here see my screenshot:
You don’t need to use the + expose entities button at the bottom.
It’s all entities that can be exposed. I only expose about 100 or so entities, that list is packed with over 400 entities for me.
I must be doing something wrong on my install then. When i first when to that section, all the entites were there. i selected all the entities (1 in the picture) and hit the UNEXPOSE
button (2 in the picture). What i was expecting was for the assistants (the block in the picture) to de-select the assistant.
instead, all the entities dissapeared from the list and to add them in you have to hit the button at the bottom of the screen
+ EXPOSE ENTITIES
to add them back in. That’s where i have the issue that i can’t select all to add them back to the list of entities that can be exposed
@sebby is right. Anything you search will reveal ONLY already exposed items. @petro are you running a beta version? I posted this discussion because you can’t do what you are suggesting can be done. I have your identical screen but you can only search on already exposed entities. Maybe this is a bug in the last many releases that nobody has reported?
To be clear, I have over 500 light entities. I have only exposed 14 of them. They are the ONLY ones that appear on a search for “light”. I have to select the “expose entities” + button on the bottom right to add more. @petro why would you even NEED the “expose entities” button on the bottom right if you can do the same thing on the main screen? That doesn’t make anys sense.
Just to make this as obvious as possible, look at this screen. What is the point of the bottom right “expose entities” if you can expose at top right??
I am not running a beta version.
Multi select was just added a few versions ago.
I am on latest version. This functionality hasn’t been possible at all.
@petro for some reason you aren’t answering our questions. Why would there be a redundant +expose entities at the bottom right if it’s not needed?
This is what makes me crazy about this forum. Legitimate issues are dismissed. I can’t be any clearer about this issue, and I’m right.
All of your search entities are ALREADY EXPOSED.
Like @sebby , I had to unexpose all of my 1,000 entities. Now I’m trying to expose them again, and you have to ONE AT A TIME. It’s ridiculous.@petro, to prove this, try unexposing an element and then add it back again with your method. You can’t. You have to use the +expose entities menu at the bottom right.
No one is dismissing the issue, where has anyone dismissed this? You’re making assumptions. I simply showed you an option available in the interface. If the option I showed you doesn’t work the way you want it to work, then sit tight and let people vote for your WTH. This WTH is still open and people can still vote on it. Relax.
Or it’sa bug. If the interface is supposed to work as you say, I’ll file a bug. If you tested it by removing and adding it back, like I suggested you could confirm.
With hundreds to thousands of entities that are, or can be, exposed to voice assistants, there needs to be a better way (UI) to manage them. The current UI is a bit confusing (for example the X on the far right… always leaves me wondering whether it hides the entity for the VA I am working on or all of them) and is very painful when dealing with hundreds to thousands of entities.
As an example, I am currently experimenting with a local LLM and the new Voice Assistant PE. While I was not using Voice Assist, I have over 500 exposed entities. Given some craziness in what the VA is doing, I want to disable them all, and just enable a few select ones. It would seem that I have to click each exposed entities one by one… for over 500 entities that I currently have exposed Ouch!
If we had a matrix style table where we can filter the rows, and then we can checkmark the desired assistants for an individual row, or for the entire column of filtered rows, it would be easier to manage than it is now. There may be better ways than what I describe, I am sure, but right now it is painful (literally for my index finger lol).
EDIT: I found a way to unexpose them all using the checkboxes, but I am leaving the WTH as it still stands. Unexposing all entities is a corner case, but needing to work large numbers of entities is a much more common occurrence.
EDIT2: To add back a few select entities, for Assist to control, I either go to Assist and search amongst the thousands of entities I can expose, or I can go to Alexa or Google to pick one of those exposed there so I can add Assist. Doing so makes it easier that searching and/or remembering all those that matter but feels like a workaround more than the right way of doing it.
