Voice control, very cool, but... what about people that does not speak english?

Hi everybody.

I think that the title explains everything.

I know that there are already some feature request related to the i18n and l10n.
At the moment my setup is with some italian words for the components while all the rest is in english.
It is almost intuitive also for people that do not speak english to reach the right part of the frontend for activate or deactivate a light. Or… well… whatever.

Voice Control looks really promising. I am setting it up right now but I can’t ask all the people in the house to send commands or receive reply in english. I really would love to be able to send commands in my own language, or any language if the setup can be switched at runtime.

In my opinion

  • this would be a really nice plus. Sooner the different language support will be integrated with home assistant, easier it would be to mantain and integrate it.
  • having this kind of feature gives home assistant a plus because not only english speaking people can interact with the system. I mean… I can speak English, my wife too. What about my kids or the kids of my friends? How can they interact with the system? There’s really a need to cut them off?

Ohh yeah, Italian we need!)

what is this?

Hi Claudio,

i18n and l10n stands for internationalization and localizazion.

This is how you can use programs with € or $. decimal notation with . or , and the single sentences translated in different languages.

I’m not speaking about italian and nothing else. But I think that with 0.50 release there is an increased motivation about using the voice for controlling and applying various automations. The Voice control 0.50: Voice control, History improvements, and Xiaomi - Home Assistant feature is a big and nice feature.

We turned Home Assistant into a platform to write voice apps, no matter where the processing of the voice happens. This can be done by Alexa, Google Assistant or in the Home Assistant user interface. We are super excited about the new functionality and hope that it will trigger a new type of applications and systems to be built on top of Home Assistant.

Yes, I am excited too… but English is not so popular or not everybody is confortable with it.
I would be more excited if I can to everybody that they can ask things in their own language.
