Voice speakers vs ambient sound (i.e. music, radio, tv)

Hi Folks,

Having avoided the big tech products all these years, I’m quite excited about Home Assistant’s work. I’m assembling a smart speaker using the recommended Pi and Anker speakerphone combo, and am working out the kinks.

I’ve noticed that when a vocal program is playing (through our separate a/v system speakers), at times the wake word continuously detects speech from the speakers, and it’s difficult to issue commands to Home Assistant that succeed – though it’s too soon to tell if it will be a serious problem in our environment.

Is talky ambient noise a common struggle for voice assistants, regardless of provider?

Are there any recommended tweaks for the Home Assistant implementation that might help with that?

Thanks.

I use Echo devices and the only time that they erroneously trigger is if some commercial says the wake word.

I personally think that some of those ads do that on purpose to trigger your voice assistant to forcefully subscribe you to their service. either way with the ubiquity of those devices you would think businesses would show more respect to their potential customers and be more careful with what they put out.
