Wall mounted touchscreen

Update: Touchpad support in 5.1 was pretty limited in the ROMs I could find and bluetooth wasn’t working - a requirement so I could use this to run my media server and speakers - so I started over completely with 4.44 KK. Things are doing much better now. Just have to figure out how to mount it and I’ll take some pics.

Hi! The feature is nice. Is it any way to start this web app from another android app? For example Tasker.
I use for my wall mount tablet Motion anf Tasker apps, which start any app or code when somebody show up in front of the tablet. But now I need to start from Taster ugly 3rd party fullscreen browser with strange behaviour. It would be nice to have native chrome web app on wake up of my tablet.

Install a Kiosk browser on your tablet and have it start with the page on boot.

If your tablet already supports wakeup on motion then that is all you need to do to have it wake up.

Kiosk browser shows bulky Kiosk title bar. End up with Firefox and fullscreen add-on. Now my wallmount tablet totally automated - shows HA when tablet starts and when somebody shows up in front.

Could you share your Tasker set up for doing the motion detection or point to a link?

I’m sure a lot of people following the thread would be helped by sharing the info; myself included.

Thought you wanted it to boot at start.
Otherwise I would have suggested Chrome with Kiosk plugin. That one has no bars.

I want it both autostart and on presence. Who doesn’t actually? BTW how to use plugins an android? Thought they are not supported https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/2710225?hl=en
I would be happy to switch to Chrome from Firefox. Last is quite slow from my point.

Of cource, tasker is pretty easy app works well together with motion. Motion detects a movement, sends a broadcast and tasker then start any task you want. In our case the task is to start any kiosk or fullscreen browser suitable for you. This broadcast thing well explained here: http://programy.jastrzab.com/help.php?lng=en&app=org_jastrzab_move

I am sorry. Ofcourse
you are on Android. I run HA on one RPI sporting Jessie and the DMP on Chrome OS on another RPi which has Chrome with Kiosk plugin.

Is it any official plug and play touchscreen for RPi any bigger than 7"? I tried to use 7" tablet with HA and it was a bit tricky for me to switch devices. Than I went for a cheap 10" Acer tablet attached to my shelfs. Attached a photo in case somebody choosing the mounting.

Look for 1080Pi from www.inti-innovations.co.uk

You can probably find others but that one popped up in my head once you mentioned 10" for Pi

Ada fruit has a 10" panel as well but that one is costly and has no touch.

So, what tablets did you use for this setup?

IT-WORKS/Delium TM785 these are OEM. Actually Chones tablet.

In US you can find them from NuVision

So short review of my two years experience with android tablets as dashboards - once it will just stop work normally. Usually problems happens with background activity or superuser tasks. This can happen in one year or few month, but solution is really not for me, as I want just install once and forget.
Probably will switch to raspberry + 10" touchscreen.
I’ve tried one noname 7" tablet and one Acer B3-A20 10" tablet (sw: tasker, secure settings, motion detector and kingroot) - all the same result. Tablets was never updated but one perfect day just stopped work as expected.

Hope this will help somebody to make write choice. Or maybe somebody had better experience with another config on Android?

I wish it was possible in HASS to configure squares or largers button.
On my mobile it’s sometimes a bit difficult to toggle a switch or activate a scene.
At the moment I’m not introducing HASS to my wife as I’m sure she will not like the small interface.

Hmmm, I’ll look at this: https://github.com/home-assistant/hadashboard

Puck, you’re going to love it. A bit of work to get running and a bit more work to layout but well worth it. @aimc has done a wonderful job with it. Take a look at his new project AppDaemon too!

If you are looking for a nice, lightweight kiosk web browser for RPi check out kweb. It is highly customizable, well documented and easily runs from the command line…no extra GUI bits to gum up the works.

The Kweb Suite thread on the RPi forums, including download and install instructions:

Hey Wingers1290.

Could I have a pic of the end result here? Left us hanging for a bit.

#UPDATE: All my tablets are still working and none of them had to be restarted ever.

Sorry for the delay! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve actually only just finished it, since we have been busy with other renovations.

I had to spend a bit of time actually thinking about how to mount the screen. I originally purchases a case for it, but it wasn’t really suitable… It fitted the screen perfectly (as it should), but there was no way to attach it to the wall itself, since there was no lip which I could screw into or use to stick onto the wall.

In the end, I whipped up a piece of MDF to fit the screen and spray painted it black. Works perfectly, and even though I don’t intend on doing it often, means I can quite easily take it off the wall to replace SD cards etc as they start to get faulty.

All in all a really awesome and cost effective feature!
