WallPanel for Android Redux

Lenovo’s are my buggiest device by far, I have a crash report from a Lenovo which seems to be having SSL issues but this is a Tab 7. If you have an issue with connectivity, go to the Github project page and look at the issues there already reported. As far as your camera, you may not be able to use this feature with your device.

Ah I see, oh well. There are no other issues. I’ve resorted to using a seperate motion sensor in combination with mqtt commands to activate the screen. Thanks for the great app

I have tried 3 different Apk’s of this application (including the legacy) and I can’t seem to get any of my lovelace cards to show up. How can I begin to troubleshoot this?

The support for CSS and HTML is entirely up to your device OS version,it is not the same as Google Chrome app. Internally Android applications use their own rendering component called WebView that renders HTML and CSS. If you cannot render your web page then there is a compatibility issue with your web page code and your devices support for WebVIew. You can try to update your WebView component from Google Play, change which components you are using for LoveLace, update your OS version or trying something like FullyKiosk that has better support for HMTL/CSS.

Hi,

This is my new discovery in HA. Like the functionality and trying to work out few things…

  • Is it possible to change font and color of clock screen saver?
  • Can’t get camera stream to work on chuwi hi8 tablet. does not work in the browser, but
can see it in app settings (camera test).

TIA

I have added the mqtt config entries into config. yaml file. But i dont get any sensor data to display in home assistant. It only shows percentage in home assistant for battery data

I have recently added a Community page to discuss WallPanel: https://community.thanksmister.com/c/wall-panel-app/

Really love the app! Especially the camera, API, sensor and TTS support.

Is there a way to provide the TTS language? Even if I configure the Android TTS to a different language, sending a speak command results in English.

Can I only use the sensor data when I first setup a MQTT broker, like Mosquitto? it feels a bit like overkill to set this up, just for this app. Or are there other options to get the sensor data, like the official companion app does?

MQTT seems to be the only way. It is extremely easy to set up though.

OK, I’ll give it a try then, hope my NAS is not to unhappy adding yet another docker container.

And hoping to be able to set a different TTS language.

Sorry I know nothing about TTS language. I speak english and I don’t have that problem.

I figured it out myself already. i need to set the language in Hass for the logged in user.

OK a final minor issue, probably Home Assistant, not Wallpanel specific. If I add the camera it will only show up as entity and not as device. It’s seems I can’t allocate it to an area :frowning:

Thanks for the great Dashboard. Trying to use for the first time. I am using a Acer Iconia A500 updated to Android 4.4.4 (Omni Custom Rom). Installed WallPanel APK through GitHub. Is Dashboard URL the only configuration? When I set it I get a blank screen with blue ribbon on top (The regular HA screen but completely blank). Anything I am missing?
Thanks in advance.

I think I am getting a blank screen because of Android webview issue. Anybody out there who can let me know why I am getting a blank screen when I open Dashboard?

Hey, I do not think that WallPanel supports that version of Android. There is a legacy version you might try https://github.com/thanksmister/wallpanel-android-legacy.

Thanks @thanksmister. I’ll try that. But my device runs Android 4.4.4 (Custom ROM). I painstakingly installed that on my old Acer Iconia A500 just to run WallPanel :pensive:

Thanks again. I am sorry I can’t find where I can download an APK for sideloading! Does legacy has a separate release page or is it the same release page? If so, which version qualifies for legacy? Do I have to download and compile to build the APK?

For some reason Microsoft has chosen to hide releases since the redesigned Github.

Thanks a lot. I think I’ll have to get a new tab. :disappointed: Even the legacy does not run and says “Unfortunately, WallPanel has stopped”. I tried both web engines and installed Crosswalk Project APK. Just for information, the following are the android ROM details:
