I really enjoy the new energy dashboards and have monitoring on my whole home energy, gas meter, and water meter. I also have individual devices monitored using smart plugs. The next step for me is detecting abnormalities. Is there anything in Home Assistant that can do this already? I’m thinking of things like:
detecting a slow leak in water
detecting high water usage such as leaving a hose or sprinkler on
notification of a failing appliance
notification of failing HVAC when it is heating or cooling and a room isn’t changing temperature
high gas usage without HVAC indicating a stove might be left on
That is my fridge’s energy usage. It isn’t has some issues where it makes weird noises and the energy spikes. I know I could write a stats entity and then detect some abnormalities such as a fluctuation in noise but that kind of requires study of each device. Is anything built-in? Is anyone doing this with any other tools?
I am interested in this too but I also discovered that some abnormalities … aren’t
This below is house …the spike is a waterboiler.
Although yours may indeed be a spike…how to know when it is one ? i.e. 400W is not a lot compared to my boiler
or something, I have multiple devices that from a short-period of time seem to spike but most (agreeing not all) are explainable
In other posts one can see power/etc. drops to actual ‘0’ quite a few times and that is indeed not realistic. The background of spikes could be multiple, e.g connection lost/gained, device issues, etc.
For me, in the end, why are we looking at these with soo much time/effort… I myself am a data-freak who likes to have all in place perfectly … do not get me wrong…but in the end: goal <> means
So I changed my view to identify peaks that span a larger period and make sure that we are aware of what energy we are spending…in reality this seems to be just my son playing video games on high quality
I’m sure they are mostly explainable. Auto-defrost makes sense. Ice maker makes sense. Someone left the fridge open is always a possibility. I know companies like Flume are doing analysis on water flow to notify of problems. Anyone know of any platforms doing AI analysis on this sort of thing that are open source? Any goals to add AI to HA?
