Hello everyone.
I managed to control my garage door with a Shelly1!
The door is used by other people that don’t have access to HA and so I need to know if the door is open or closed.
So I need to get a waterproof door sensor. Do you know any to suggest?
Thanks!
I am using a stainless steel reed switch fixed on the floor under the garage door, and connected to an ESP.
I installed a magnetic reed switch at the top of the garage door. Magnet is attached to the top-edge of the door (near right-hand side but the exact location is up to you; could be the center), reed switch is mounted on the wall above the door. Discrete and out of harm’s way. It’s been working fine for about ten years now.
Same magnet can also serve to activate a second reed switch located at the opposite end of the door’s travel to indicate when the door is fully open. Locating this second reed switch is a bit more challenging (can be somewhere along the garage door-opener’s main strut if you have that kind of opener).
I will try this solution with the magnetic reed switch.
Thx!
