WAXMAN leakSMART Water Sensor V2 - no binary sensor

I have a leakSMART water sensor that I’d like to use just to detect water, not with an accompanying shut off valve. I have several Xiaomi Aqara water sensors as well. When I pair the leakSMART sensor with HA, all I get is a temperature entity. I would expect that there would be a binary sensor as well that would flag when it detects water. The Xiaomi sensors work this way.

I skimmed through the sensor’s cluster attributes and commands, but didn’t find anything that might tell it to provide a binary sensor. I also searched online and only found one reference to a similar issue on these forums back in 2017, with no follow up.

Has anyone used a leakSMART sensor this way? Is the sensor perhaps not meant to report when it detects water, but merely to command a valve to shut?

TIA!

I just installed HomeAssistant on my RaspberryPi4. I pulled the docker image from dockerhub and the installation went pretty smoothly. I have a Combo Z-wave and Zigbee USB stick (model # HUSBZB-1 ). By default /dev/ttyUSB0 is Z-wave and /dev/ttyUSB1 is Zigbee. I was able to pair the Waxman Leaksmart sensor in HomeAssistant. The front panel shows not only the temperature, battery level, but also the leak status. Everything worked out of the box!
