WB3L Module Tuya devices - Swapping out for an ESP

Hi,

Asked the question here earlier today.

Anyone here successfully swapped out a WB3L Module in Tuya devices and replaced with an ESP? I’m finding the Tuya integration awful and Tasmota has always been rocksteady for me.

And this piqued my interest…

Replacing WB3L (BK7231T) with ESP8266

Yes I did it succefully. For a ligthbuld. I soldered the old one out, looked were each trace on the pcb went (that made the mapping later super easy), and soldered a flashed esp8266 in.
Just had to connect gpio15 to ground.

Hi
Thanks for that. I also established this with digiBlur (see his YouTube channel). He just bridges GPIO15 to GND (the next pin over) using a solder bridge. Did you do this?

The Tuya integration is better for me since the last integration but it is slow to respond. I haven’t done it yet but there’s a template for the Downlight controller on Blackadder’s site.

My only apprehension is currently my UniFi router reports some of the WiFi signals from the controllers are quite weak 68% for one or two which causes the occasional dropout. I have access to a rework station so I don’t even need to buy one.

I’m going to reposition the controllers once the weather cools down here. It’s about 45°C in my roof space during the day so I haven’t done it yet to see if that improves the signal.

Good to know from two different sources that it works. Thanks again.

Yes I also just used solder to bridge the two pins.
Overall I did a really bad job at soldering, I had to use far too much heat, I just had normal solder.
I reccomend you to use low heat solder, that makes everything a lot easier.
I made a lot of error but still, everything works fine now.
Good luck!

I did lots of WB2L and WB2S
