thanks for the reply. I am looking more for the recommended method of allowing remote access when away on holiday and then remove remote access when back home. We already use a vpn on my mobile devices.

The VPN here works the same as on your mobile, but instead of your mobile ending up in another country to watch Netflix movies without geoblocking, then this VPN setup makes your mobile device end up inside your own network, so it is becoming a local connection instead.
