Web interface inacessible post reset/update (but app is fine)

I bought a Home Assistant Green a while ago but never got around to doing much with it (besides initial setup, so it’s been sat powered on but otherwise ignored for several months). Now that I’ve moved home, I want to get started on home automation/smart home stuff, so I’ve reset the unit to start the new home from scratch.

The initial reset looks to have worked fine, with the one slight weirdness that it claimed to be downloading the latest version of the OS only to then tell me there was an update available after I’d done the onboarding steps. Up to this point I’d been just using Firefox on my MacBook, no issues. Accepted the update, and the prompt to reboot, and now Firefox consistently gives me this error message:

Unable to connect
Firefox can’t connect to the server at homeassistant.local:8123

I still have the Android app installed on my phone from my past tinkering, and weirdly enough that’s able to talk to the HA Green unit just fine. My laptop (the same one which can’t load the page in Firefox) is able to ping the unit at homeassistant.local and I haven’t knowingly changed anything else about the network in the meantime. I think literally the only non-default thing I did outside of the update was allow HA to add my router when it auto-detected that as a UPnP device!

I’ve tried searching for posts about comparable situations, but all the ones I could easily find (before getting frustrated) sounded like they lost web interface access and app access simultaneously, and/or were several years old so likely referring to older software versions than my unit’s running. Is this a known issue that I just couldn’t find? Have I simply done something daft? Thanks to anybody who can help with this!

Have you tried to remove the port in the url ?

With the new release the port have changed to the regular one, so you don’t need to add this magic number (8123) any more

That’s solved it, thank you! Glad it was something so simple, though I wish that information had been easier to find for myself :laughing: :sweat_smile:

I think when you upgrade and not reset, the port stays like before. you can change it if you want.

As a suggestion: You should get into the habit of reading the release notes before hitting the upgrade button as this is the way the developers let you know what is changing, and if there are any breaking changes that may impact you. Most of us have learnt this the hard way.
First time it happens you don’t know why. The second time you do. It then becomes routine.
