Weird behavior with HA, GE Fan controller and Alexa

I have a couple fan controllers, I can turn them on/off with HA via automations, and the UI. I can set the speed via Automations, and UI, and I can use my echos to turn on and off, and set the speed to LOW or High, but when I tell my echo to set the speed to Medium, it does not know what to do. It basically says “living room fan does not support that”. I cannot remember the exact phrase. I tried using the word medium, middle, mid, med.

I rarely set the speed to medium which is probably why i never noticed. Not sure if its ever worked, or this is new.

Anyone else have this issue?

how are you connecting HA to alexa?

Good question, I am using using the cloud componet

hmmm, i would think it would be medium? I don’t use cloud. I use emulated hue, so I can’t do anything other than turn it on.

EDIT: My ge fan switch has low, medium, and high settings in ha. I would expect the phrases to be identical

I was actually surprised, and quite happy, when I realized I could control the speeds. Of course, was quite a while before I realized medium did not work. Its not the end of the world, but still seems to me like something is not working, vs just not an option.

With Alexa, ‘set fan to 50%’ sets my fan to medium, ‘low’ and ‘high’ also work.
With Google Assistant, nothing works but ‘on’ and ‘off’.

Edit: Chatted with Google Home support: speed levels coming

Yes that works for me too. I believe it’s in increments of 33 for low, med, high. Just more of a why can I say low and high but not medium. For guests it would be confusing. Again not the end of the world. Just seems like an oversight

Yes - I have the same issue with my Alexa cloud connected fan. Medium doesn’t work but 50% does.

Anyone ever figure out how to get it to use medium?

I was just wondering the same thing.
