Weird recurring issue with Hue solved after rebooting

I run HA 2022.8.6 using Docker on a HP Thin Client with adequate RAM and computing specs.

Every two weeks or so, activating Hue scenes via HA becomes very slow - there’s a 15+ sec time delay in the scene activating and even then bulbs activate one by one.

I have found this is quickly fixed by rebooting the Thin Client machine HA runs on.

It is not fixed by any of the following:

  • Restarting the docker container
  • Reloading the Hue integration via HA
  • Rebooting the Hue Hub

What could be causing this issue? I.e. what happens only when i restart the machine that won’t be happening when I restart the container? And why is the issue only affecting (or noticeable with) the Hue integration?

The logs don’t offer any obvious clues and I’m stumped!

Sounds like a driver issue. Is the hub connected by USB?

The hub is connected to the router by ethernet. And then wifi connection to the computer running HA.

Ok there goes that idea.

For a start I’d eliminate this by wiring it:

Even it it is annoying or difficult, just do it temporarily for testing.

The weird thing is this though:

Thank you for the suggestions tom. There’s no USB slot on the Hue Hub. So my only option is to connect over wifi.

My HP machine (that runs HA) only has 1 ethernet port so I can’t connect the Hub to the computer over Ethernet either.

I’ve checked the obvious logs, is there anywhere else I can look? I rebooted the machine just a few hours back so unfrotunately can’t recreate this issue for another 7-10 days until it slows down again.

I wonder if there is some log or temporary datastore that becomes too big and is purged on restart that is causing the delay?

But you said:

Connect both the HP machine and hub to the router via wired Ethernet.

Sorry I minced my words!

Yes both the hub and the HP machine are connected via ethernet to the router. So they do have a wired connection via the router.

Then I have no idea, sorry.
