Wemos D1 mini with WS2812b Led Strip

Hello all!

My brother has asked me to put an LED strip behind his desk, and i’d like to add it to Hass as well. I have been scouring the internet for how to do this best (I did try to flash a Magichome controller but it’s cpu wasn’t supported, and i don’t want to go through the hassle of finding one that works).

A WS2812b LED Strip and a 5V 10A Power Supply, with a Wemos D1 mini that controls the LED strip and get powered by it.

Now i had a few questions:

• Will this work?
• Do i need to add a capacitor? (like said here: https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-neopixel-uberguide/powering-neopixels)
• I know it’s not recommended, but i was going to get this power supply from Alie: https://nl.aliexpress.com/item/4000433119623.html Would it be fine? I know getting PSU’s from china isn’t recommended but i figured it has lots of good reviews.

I built a 1M strip with NodeMCU - I found these useful :

Getting Started With WLED on ESP8266

I also powered off the NodeMCU itself via Vin pin (I bought a decent 3A micro USB PSU)

I ended up using WLEDd as all the effects are already built in and you don’t need to keep editing yaml and recompiling to add new ones.

Good And yeah i was going to put WLED or ESPHome on it, but prob WLED.
