WEMOS ESP32 S2: no connection in Windows 11

Hi all,

I have bought a few WEMOS ESP32 S2 mini, like this one:

https://www.wemos.cc/en/latest/s2/s2_mini.html

I got them into boot mode with the combination of correctly holding and releasing the BOOT and RESET buttons, and the Windows device manager is showing the ESP32-S2, but it says it does not have the correct drivers.

(sorry, it’s German)

I searched around the internet and found that it requires drivers, e.g. CH340 Driver — WEMOS documentation
I downloaded that, ran the install, nothing changed.
I entered the device in the device manager, manually installed the driver from the unpacked folder, was not detected as suitable driver.
Device Manager also shows COM5 when I put the ESP in boot mode:

I searched more and found this: Establish Serial Connection with ESP32-S2 - ESP32-S2 - — ESP-IDF Programming Guide v5.3.1 documentation
They state two different drivers, I have that one for the CP210x platform already because I also have two ESP32 NodeMCU that work flawlessly.

So now I’m a bit lost. I found no info on the internet why the drivers might fail to install :frowning:

oh ok nevermind. I found this link USB doesn't properly enumerate · Issue #1 · ccadic/ESP32-S2-DevBoardTFT · GitHub that recommended installing https://zadig.akeo.ie/ for automated driver installation. It installed some driver, then I was able to download the bin file from ESPhome, flash via Adafruit ESPTool with 230400 baud rate. Not sure though which firmware I used (ota or factory), but that should be try/error will probably work

update: try and error says it was tmp-temperatur.factory.bin
