I’m currently running HA on a rack-mounted server with an AMD A8-5600K CPU, 8G DDR3 1600 RAM, and a 250GB SSD. This has been working great, but I recently integrated Frigate and it’s been spiking my CPU. I know I need a Google Coral, and I’ll buy one once the global supply chain catches up and they are available again. Until then, I think I’m going to upgrade my server specs.
I’m using Frigate on only 3 cameras (Amcrest 8MP) right now, but have 16 total cameras I could integrate it with.
What components should I prioritize and how crazy should I get? Is CPU More important than memory? Would an 12th gen i5 cpu be enough or should I spring for the i7 or even i9? Is there a specific type of memory I should use? Or any other recommended components?
I’ll reuse my rack mount case (micro ATX). I’d like to keep the cost under ~$500, but that’s not a firm budget.
