What do I need to look for in order to buy a compatible Outlet for Home Assistant?

Hi,

I have a small setup at the moment with Home Assistant, some Philips Hue and Google Home Mini.

I want to buy an outdoor outlet and I’m not sure what I have to look for in order to be able to control it from Home Assistant.

For example:

Teckin wireless outdoor socket, 16 A 4000 W, waterproof outlet with 2 outputs with app remote control, Smart Home intelligent Wi-Fi outlet, compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Home and IFTTT.

Would this work? It says that you can control it with its own app but also with Google Home. If it’s in Google Home is it possible to create an entity in Home Assistant and use it there?

In order to control a device you have to integrate it withing HA. You can pass HA entities to Google Home, but I never heard about the other way around.

Most important for me, if I am looking for an device which can be integrated, is to see if I can flash it with alternative firmware like Tasmota or ESPHome, or if there is already existing integration in HA.

As for the outdoor socket, I recently saw that BlitzWolf make some and I believe these can be tasmotized.

I see. Since I have a Zigbee2MQTT usb, another option would be to find an outlet with zigbee protocol correct?

That’s right, but you have to make sure it is supported by Z2M.

Would this work Amazon.de

if I install this integration Tuya - Home Assistant?

It seems to be controlled via a “Smart Life” app which looks like that integration supports.

Edit: I did end up buying that outlet that uses the Smart Life app and the Tuya integration worked without problems
