One of my GE zwave switches failed and I replaced it with exact same make and mode.
What’s the best approach to replace the switch in my setup? Is there a way to minimize needing to redo Automations that the old switch was setup for?

just remove the dead node and restart HA. And then when you pair the new switch go to the entity registry or the device registry and rename the new entities to the same names as the old entities.
Tried this and it seemed to work… but then digging in, something is wrong.
Notice in this screenshot it shows my old switch (switch.front_porch_light
) with 2 entities: switch.front_porch_light
and the jasco switch.
I tried removing the node but that only removed the jasco one and the old entity is still stuck there.
Nm, i ended up restarting HA and the node disappeared. I just restarted by adding the switch as new.
