What sensor can be used to detect burning of insulation?

Does anyone know, which sensor can be used to detect burning of insulation? Standard standalone smoke alarm did not work for some reason.
Thank you!

DIY?

Yes, DIY is perfect, thank you, I will check this gas sensor ASAP.
PS: sensor bought, waiting for delivery.

What kind of inulation?

Electrical or residential building insulation?

Either way I’m surprised it didn’t work based on the type of smoke. I wouldn’t think there would be any special properties of that type of smoke to make a smoke detector ineffective.

Electrical.

Yap, I am surprised to. Maybe smoke concentration was not enough to trigger the alarm. That’s why I want to add configurable sensor, to be able to adjust threshold ranges manually or with some automatization.

Which detection technique does the smoke detector employ? Photo-electric or ionization?
