What3Words when Creating Zones

Happy Holidays Home Assistant!
Apart from latitude and longitude, is it possible for us to input a location another way?
I was thinking of address or What3Words.
I am visually impaired, and dropping that pin for the exact location is super hard.
Cheers, and happy new year!

Hi,
As a contributor to Open Street Map for many years, my personal opinion is What Three Words is a proprietary mess that doesn’t work. in the manner it is often advertised due to homophones and plurals.

The business model relies on licensing a proprietary algorithm to businesses, which means it is unlikely to be compatible with the Home Assistant open data principles.

There are however several other open map short-code systems available if Latitude / Longitude is not a good for for your needs.

Also remember that you don’t need more than two or three digits of Lat/ Long for this sort of positioning, and that OSM open data can be rendered to be more accessible, including high-contrast.

If this helps, :heart: this post!

Thank you.
Oh I did not know What3Words charging, yeah that wont’ work with HA.
How about using phone’s location, so I can just be in the spot with good GPS signal and drop the pin there?
I don’t think this works as I tried creating a Zone when I was 10 miles from home, but it did not place the pin on my current location, but near my home.

Settings => Areas, labels & zones => Zones => (+ Add Zone)

Works here both on FireFox and the HA Android app - but I don’t know if you use assistive technology aids which could be breaking the Leaflet map JavaScript.

Sadly, HA have chosen to use a particularly low-contrast “background” rendering of the OSM map which isn’t easy to see.
