I have a couple of Matter bulbs (TP-Link), two outlets (also TP-Link) and just added a Matter thermostat (Meross). They are all Wi-Fi devices, not Thread.
Several times a day some of these devices go off line. I know it’s not the devices, because they still show up and work with Google Home.
The bulbs and outlets are less of a problem because my automations can use the TP-Link integration. But since I am controlling the thermostat with automations, there have been times that the automations fail because the thermostat has been off-line to HA.
The thermostat does come online by itself, usually within an hour or so.
I do have the same problem with my matter over wifi bulb form Tuya.
It is randomly not avialable. sometimes serveral times a day sometimes once a week.
If I do switch off the bulb for about 10 seconds it is available again.
Is this because Tuya is not reliable? or is it a Matter item?
I do run matter as docker under Unraid
I’m having a similar issue with SONOFF MINI Extreme Wi-Fi Smart Switch (Matter-enabled) | MINIR4M. I’ve got 5 of them and they stay connected to Apple Home, in HA they drop off every few days so far.
Matter over WiFi has been mostly great for me. I have had a few problem devices, but I’m not sure if it was really them or my old WiFi. Matter over Thread on the other hand was terrible at first. Then it was fine for a while. Then I had a horrible experience with it just this past weekend. Which makes me want to really unprioritized Matter over Thread in the future.
I’m not going to quit it because I still have devices that I’m going to keep using. And it’s only going to be more common moving forward. But if I can avoid Matter over Thread devices then I will lol. I will definitely not go all in on sensors again like I just did with Ikea leak sensors. Back to Yolink for me since I do have their local hub.
Can the Meross thermostat with Matter work offline (no cloud) without any issues? Yours sounds like a Matter issue. Personally, with Matter over thread and a HomePod mini acting as a bridge, I have no issues with my devices. My automations need to be managed by Homeasisstant without using the Meross application (I’m looking for a local thermostat, but some aren’t sold in Europe, but Meross is.)
Yes. That’s a reason I bought it. I can block the device from the Internet from my router. It works fine, both in HA and the Meross app.
The problem is that sometimes it drops out, which a reload of the matter integration fixes. Since I’ve had similar problems with other Matter devices, I think it has to be the Matter integration over WiFi
