Today Home Assistant popped up a notification that it has discovered a new device (“Network UPS Tools (NUT)”).
The interesting thing is that I’m not familiar with this “device” and got a bit suspicious, so I wanted to investigate.
Is there a way to check how/where did HA found this device? An IP at least for example would be great.
I tried the logs but couldn’t find anything related.
That’s an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS). Did you recently add one?
I suspected that, but no, I didn’t add a UPS.
I did add new proxmox and truenas servers though, but that’s why I wanted to confirm what exactly did HA find. But I couldn’t find any way to verify.
Its not unlikely that TrueNAS or Proxmox have features for UPS controls made available on the network.
That’s indeed possible. Putting that aside, though…
Anyone has any idea about this part of the question?

Try to set up the device and see what is available of info in the device and entity lists and also check the states of the entities that becomes available.
Tried it but it immediately prompts for a username and password as a first step of the setup.
Try the TrueNAS and Proxmox password.
@jaysicks, did you get anywhere with this? I had exactly the same happen after Truenas/Proxmox install. Device setup with these details also did not work for me.
If you can’t log in from the outside, then go inside and see what is configured.
Not really.
I remember it popping up somewhere on my TrueNAS installation, but I can’t recall where, (it’s not in the services) maybe the kernel log or somewhere. And I got the same thing when I set up my second TrueNAS server. Since you also mention TrueNAS I think we can safely conclude that it is the source.
That said, as stated above, my main goal was finding a general solution to investigate such cases. But HA doesn’t seem to provide any help in this regard.
(Note: randomly typing in one’s password to every popup that asks for it is definitely not something that anyone should do.)
