Which cloud cameras do you recommend?

Hi.

I have a garage far from my house. My wifi network doesn’t reach. I managed to get a neighbor to give me access to his wifi network. Obviously, I can’t open ports on the router. What cameras do you recommend that connect via cloud to my Home Assistant? All the ones I’ve seen so far connect locally. It must be a cheap camera that only serves to see the status of the cars. I don’t care about the reliability or security of the camera server.

Thanks in advance.

Ethernet over power lines might be a solution.

You’d generally setup a 4G based camera with solar in places where you can’t reach with wifi and its important to monitor the status of the area for motion alerts.

Define the distance between where you have the server setup and where you need it setup so we have an idea of what can be better suggested as well as if you have line of sight options to implement like point to point wifi antenna.

Thank you, but the house and the garage are not part of the same building.

Would you be able to have ethernet ran between the locations? if so you can get that installed and just make sure you either use a POE switch or injector as needed to power it.

Also not exactly what you asked, but how about something like this?

They are about 150 meters (0.1 miles) away. I don’t care about the image quality. I’d like it to be cheap.

Cloud servers don’t come cheap. They cost money to run. So eiter they come with a subscription, or you pay up front. That is why people look for local, and that is why that is advertised most. So either look for local long range, or expect higher cost due to cloud servers. If it is cloud and cheap, expect the servers to disappear after a while, leving you with a brick.

You could initiate some kind of a VPN tunnel from your neighbors network towards your own network, and use that for the camera traffic?
You wouldn’t need to open any ports, expect for your own router

That is a good idea, there might be camaras out there with inbuilt vpn support too.

Thanks. I don’t know much about networks and VPNs but I’ll look into it. Would you recommend something like Tuya?
