I have no fan at home so It wont be a problem
I just want the sensor to be reliable cause I want to put it in my bedroom so it can detect while Im sleeping
A low-tech way is to cover the part of the sensor that points at the fan so just the rest of the room is exposed to the sensor, not that part of the ceiling - ?
I funded this new mmWave Zigbee switch from Inovelli and am anxious to get it into production. They are funded far more than they need so I expect it might just be a game changer! I funded the 10 pack and plan to have this as the âprimaryâ switch for all rooms where I want to detect presence, fully understanding that I might have to augment that with other sensors too.
Thank you.
Any suggestions on what to use to block it. It seems to just go through light materials.
Aluminium foil or adhesive backed aluminium tape?
Thank you. Ill try
On the sensor, not the fan (JK LOL!)
Im willin to try anything
Hello,
Just a stupid question.
Is there any way to use the already installed PIR alarm sensors as detector presence?
Buy (I use these in all my bathrooms - works great!!!): Screek Human Sensors - available on e-bay - cheap and works for static and moving targets : Human Sensor 2A For Home Assistant By SCREEK (wifi,24G mmWave,LD2450,esp32c3) | eBay
Make: EC Buying HLK-LD2410B Human Presence Radar Module Bluetooth Test Kit 24GHz LD2410 Smart Human Detection Sensor Module Board with Bluetooth Test Kit - available on Amazon: Amazon.com: EC Buying HLK-LD2410B Human Presence Radar Module Bluetooth Test Kit 24GHz LD2410 Smart Human Detection Sensor Module Board with Bluetooth Test Kit : Electronics
I also have this one - but it requires bluetooth so depending on size of your house could be a show stopper.
I strongly doubt, and i also donât reccomend it.
First, alarm sensors are movement sensors, not presence (at least 95% of them are), so itâs a no-go.
There are some alarm panels that are capable of output a signal when certain sensor is triggered, but that generally require a proffessional to program it, but itâs still just movement signal, not presence one.
Second: i wouldnât mess with alarm system. Leave it as is and buy some LD2410 or similar. Depending on situation is sometimes a good idea to combine LD with IR sensor (noisy environments). They are dirt cheap on aliexpress, too.
Yeah I have PIRs in every room. Great for fast detection of entry into a room but rubbish if you are sitting still. You have to be careful how you point them too. People need to move across the beams, not towards the sensor, for best effect. Also you need to avoid strong sunlight.
There is/was a product with 2 pirs that you mount over a door and it tells you which way a person is moving (into or out of the room). And they had software that would keep count of the number of people in a room. Canât find it now but it might make an interesting DIY project. I suspect you might need some custom Fresnel lenses though.
Yes, sensors can be nasty (especially if theyâre cheap). For best results combo senors are used (IR+MW). Some of them have pet-immunity, although i wouldnât put my life on that function to operate properly each time⌠Iâve lived to see a (small) spider triggering an alarm (climbing directly across sensor lens).
Yeah, fresnel lenses are usually made in a way that sensor is most sensitive for motion in 90 degree direction. Usually there is some detection when moving towards/away, but sensitivity is very limited in this way. Sun can affect sensitivity, sure, since extra heat is present on the sensor. These sensors can be made inactive by heating a room to a body temperature(37-38deg). In that case sensor wonât be able to see heat difference when you move. Some sensors have protection against that, too.
I didnât came across âpeople counterâ sensor yet, but if you ask me it can be inaccurate over time - sooner or later it will miss a person and you have a problem (or a non-existing person inside the roomâŚ) Then it can easily happen that an PIR sensor senses same person twice in a quick successionâŚ
But, back to topic: i kinda see the problem of Solarflor: itâs kinda âuglyâ to have a million sensor in each room⌠not to mention expensiveâŚ
I believe you could also make it:

but can we hide the mmwave under a plastic cover like the eletrical box cover?
Found it:
Seems I already posted it above though: Which is the best way to detect presence in a room? - #5 by tom_l
And it is no longer in production.
I have a brain like a sieve.

Well, do a bit research if LD2450 is supported in esphome (i know that LD2410 is). If you connect it to esp module and program esp with esphome then you can do pretty much anything.
However, LD24xx can be used standalone, too. It has one output which can be connectec directly to a relay if you donât need connection with Home Assistant.
Also check out various LD models - some have multizone settings and some doesnât. Those with multizone can be adjusted more precisely.
LD2450 is the one used by SCREEK.
By the way what is the one you suggest for Home assistant?
If i understand correctly LD2450 is still in some sort of experimental phase with HA. Itâs quite more expensive than LD2410 if i see correctly, since supposely it can track up to 3 persons at the same time (if iâve read correctly). But, for movement/presence in the room you only need LD2410, itâs way cheaper.
But, i would order both 1 piece each and do some testing. When you see which one serves you best then you order more.
Youâd have to power it but donât see why it wouldnât work.
