Hi guys. I’m considering a Lenovo Tiny (usff) to buy as a Home Assistant server. After searching I found that the M72e is popular. However, as far as I understand, for HA OS you need to flash the bios to support UEFI.
Which Lenovo Tiny models do you use and why? Thank you!
The Lenovo Tiny PCs are fine for the job, but I would recommend a newer CPU.
At least a series 6000 or 7000.
They should be readily available because they can not run Windows 11, so people are upgrading from them.
Lenovo ThinkCentre M92 Tiny Mini PC - Newer chip doesn’t really matter as an i3 or i5 has more than enough horsepower for Home Assistant. Just put a minimum of 512GB SSD and 8GB (if not 16GB) of RAM in it.
Well, now that SMB/CIFS drives can be mounted in HAOS, the 512GB SSD may be a bit overkill. I previously ran Debian on a 512GB SSD, and with swap and boot partitions, could only keep a handful of backups before having to delete the oldest.
As for RAM, 8 GB is more than enough, but 16GB kits are relatively inexpensive.
Well, one or two backups should be enough on the devices.
More backups should always be stored off device anyway, so you can handle disc crash and other catastrophic events.
