Currently we are renovating our apartment.
Now I’m toying with the idea of mounting a tablet on the wall.
I read some threads and googled which is the best tablet but I am not sure.
I want a tablet, which turns automatically on, if someone is near (proximity sensor or front cam), if it’s possible.
I read in some older threads, that its maybe possible to use Amazon Fire HD10, but I cannot prove if they have success?
Do you use a wall mounted tablet with lovelace?
If yes, which one?
I use an old Nexus 9 running Android 7, which works very well. It turns itself on when the camera spots someone nearby, which is what you want, but this is achieved through the browser rather than the tablet itself. The browser is Fully Kiosk Browser & App Lockdown, available through Play Store - it has a whole range of features which you might find useful.
I have an even older Tesco Hudl 2 running Android 5.1 and Fully Kiosk Browser. Again, screen turns on via motion detection from front cam. Works fine, performance is adequate.
I have wall-mounted it in a 3D-printed bracket with concealed USB power connection switched via a Gosund UP111 smart plug flashed with ESPHome to keep the battery between 25% and 75%, as I’m not completely happy with the idea of leaving the battery permanently on charge.
I’ve used fire tablets in the past but currently use a couple Lenovo Smart Tab M10 tablets. It’s a clean android experience without all the Amazon bloat. Also use fully kiosk browser on them. I use them with a landscape view dock set up instead of a wall mount but there are a couple available mounting options. As a lovelace tablet, they work flawlessly
Thank you!
So I will look up for an Android 7” tablet with front cam
Is it important which Android version is installed/ can be root? (Eg. Not older than 7.x?)
Edit:
I bought now a Vankyo S7 from Amazon with Android 9 and will test this device
Fortunately there is some more time until the Tablet have to mounted on the wall
