Whole of house energy monitor hardware

Can anyone recommend a mains electricity monitoring device (“whole of house monitor”)? Clamp type preferred but inline is good as well as long as it has a “fail on” feature so if it blows I still have household power. Wi-Fi , Zigbee or Z-Wave all OK.

I’m in the Philippines with 220/240V mains electricity, 100A main fuse. Here we have a double live (110V) system with no neutral and no earth.

T device needs to be able to monitor solar and battery systems as well or at least be up-gradable to do so.

Thanks in advance.

I stumbled upon this thread because I’m looking for the exact same thing but I don’t have Z-Wave as option (unless I can’t find a network/Zigbee solution). There are some devices to be found online but most of them are Z-Wave and the Aeotec Home Energy Meter Gen5 seems to be a promising one.

The CLMT-1ZBS is a Zigbee alternative, but can’t find if it will compatible with my Conbee2 using Deconz and HA.

@Fluxlicious it looks like I am going to go the https://circuitsetup.us/ route. It’s proven to work with HA and it can cope with mains, solar and battery power all in the one device. Cost for me would be $130 with 3 sets of clamps.

https://sense.com looks good but at $283 plus shipping for the base system (https://www.amazon.com/Sense-Energy-Monitor-Electricity-Usage/dp/B075K6PHJ9) the difference is not worth the extra cost

I am a fan of Aeotec products but looking at the latest Aeotec product roadmap the Home Energy Meter Gen5 is available on special order only. As Aeotec are now releasing Gen 7 products I’d wait for an update. However, at $100 plus shipping each (https://www.amazon.com/Aeotec-Aeon-Labs-ZW095-ZW095/dp/B00XD8WZX6) that $300 for a mains/solar/battery the https://circuitsetup.us/ looks like the best way to go for me.

I was unfamiliar with the CircuitSetup board which looks very promising but after some researching it appears accuracy of basically any measured value is doubtful. Take a look at this discussion, the developer responds in there as well.

I haven’t found a review by someone who field-tested the accuracy.
I’m still in doubt what to buy :stuck_out_tongue:

Been using the CircuitSetup energy monitor boards for a few years now. Initially I used the split phase monitor but the board was defective and kept dropping. CircuitSetup replaced it, and I upgraded to the 6 channel which I have been happy with ever since. After calibrating the clamp constants I can make it agree with my ammeter to within a 100th which I think is about as accurate as it needs to be.

@mdmc95 I’m also checking out the https://iotawatt.com board. Very similar to the circuitsetup but has more channels and the software / integration possibilities look more mature.
