Why are there SO many updates to Home Assistant all the time?

I primarily use ZigBee2MQTT but every 2-3 days everything stops working; no ZigBee devices respond to keypads or anything. I open HA and sure enough it will say Home Assistant Core update available. I do it, and everything starts to work again… for a few days until it doesn’t. Open the app, surprise, surprise, ANOTHER update available for Home Assistant Core. Run it, and everything works. Rinse and repeat.

I’ve been using Home Assistant for 2 months and cannot believe how many times I’ve had to run an update to the latest version to make things keep working.

Just some feedback, but having MAJOR releases every few months would be way better than these constant tiny updates.

Updates being available does not stop Home Assistant from working. You are concluding a cause and effect that is not there. You have a different stability problem you need to address.

I would agree with above.
I haven’t updated in a long time, I’m still on march release and I don’t think I have even restarted HA during this time.

It’s very likely that things start to work again for you because you restart HA, which is an inherent part of updating. It would probably work the same if you just manually restarted.

Which, as others pointed out, hints to an underlying issue you have that is unrelated to updating. You need to find and fix this issue. Myself I usually lag several months on updates. I only update my production system - the one that controls my home - maybe 2 or 3 times a year. Others will religiously update it for every minor version. Entirely up to you.

Correlation doesn’t imply causation.

Also, Home Assistant and Zigbee2MQTT are independent open-source software projects.

Your symptoms sound like a problem with your zigbee adapter. What adapter are you using? Is it on the recommended list for zigbee2mqtt (link below)? Is the firmware updated? What are the logs showing when things lock up?

While I can understand the frustration, I think providing some more information could help us solve your problem versus being generally frustrated with the update process, which as the other posters pointed out, is unlikely to be the cause of your issues.
