I really have searched around for this issue and I’ve read many threads that seem relevant, but they all seem to be 2-4 years old and none of them that I’ve seen really offer a solution.
I’m fairly new to Home Assistant (~3 months now) but not new to automation. I have a mix of mostly Z-Wave and wifi devices and just recently added 3 matter/thread devices to my network. Everything sets up and works great - no real issues…until I need to restart.
The problem I’m running into is - every time I restart Home Assistant I lose the device names and areas for all 3 of my matter/thread devices 4 of my Z-Wave devices. 100% of the time I restart, it’s always the exact same 7 devices. Some are Inovelli White and Red dimmers, some are door/window sensors, and some are smart plugs. Different brands, different device types.
I’ve tried making a full backup after naming everything, then restarting (and losing the names), then restoring from that backup and it does not bring back the names/areas.
I have many other devices I’d like to continue adding to the network but I’m worried this problem will persist with those new devices so I’m kind of pausing building out my network and attempting to solve this before going any further.
Any ideas why this is happening? Are there any good troubleshooting steps or helpful logs I can post? It’s happening so consistently (100% of the time) that I’m very surprised I’m not seeing tons of current posts/threads about it and it’s making me think I’m doing something wrong - but it doesn’t really seem like there is much that can be messed up when adding a device. It’s pretty straight forward and simple.
