Why do I need to flash my Sonoff TI CC2652P?

I see a lot of videos on how to flash the Sonoff USB dongle:

But why?

Aren’t they good out of the box?

They are good out of the box, but even new ones still come with the same firmware as initial released, which is old. So it is advised to upgrade to the newest available stable firmware.
