It’s been doing this for so long now that I just kill it and start it again. It’s random and annoying and completely unusable when it gets into that state.
Mostly it happens on iPads.

I haven’t had that issue on iPad, which is the main device I use for when interacting with Home Assistant. Are you using a gesture to task switch? If you have Zoom enabled in the iOS settings app (Settings > Accessibility > Zoom) double tapping three fingers, or swiping up with three fingers can trigger Zoom.
Zoom has always been off
It happens pretty much every day I use the app. I Double tap home to task switch.
V2024.11 via TestFlight.
Thanks for clarifying. You could also check if pinch to zoom is on in the Companion App settings (Home Assistant App > Settings > Companion App > General).
Do you have a screenshot of when it is in the zoomed state?
It literally just happened as I was reading your msg above and task switched over to the app.
Interestingly I turned it ON, and once out of settings,I was able to recover and pinch to unzoom without having to restart the app. So this is a good workaround or now!
Also,as I edit this post and task switch over to the app it consistently is zoomed when the app goes active. And I can now unzoom. But each task sw back to the app is zoomed again.
Portrait or Landscape.
Also, now that I can recover by unzooming, I notice that it’s stuck in this state. I have to unzoom each and every time I task switch over to the app. Previously I’d have to kill the app and restart it.
I just restarted it and now it’s fine.
Normally when I task sw I notice the nav bar stays fixed but each of my Lovelace cards flash ever so briefly as if they are reloading or redrawing. When it’s in the zoomed mode, I don’t see that, or possibly can’t see it bc it’s zoomed.
Hope this helps!
It likely relates to custom stuff. I have the same, but am too lazy to search the add-on that is causing it.
I’ve seen a Mastodon post of someone who suspected card-tools causing it.
Like custom cards in Lovelace?
Yes, the mastodon post refers to:
I don’t use this one, so I cannot confirm. I do experience the same issue card-mod, layout-card and mini-graph-card. But as said, it doesn’t bother be enough to figure out whether any of those cards cause the behaviour.
