Why does Roku work with Alexa but not HA? Fast start

Loaded question a bit…so I linked up my Roku devices to HA and they’d work for a bit and then would disconnect usually the next day.

Through some digging, I figured out “fast start” needs to be enabled on the Roku TV itself. This basically lets HA “wake up” the TV when it’s powered down. The problem is that uses a lot more power.

However, my Alexa app has been connected to my Roku TVs for well over two years and this has never happened. Every day I boot it up with an Alexa command.

Any idea why this is an issue with HA? It doesn’t make sense to me. Roku itself says “fast start” is needed for voice commands to work, yet Alexa has always worked without fast start on

Not a huge issue; more curious than anything

From my understanding HA uses the IP address of the Roku and not a hostname. Without fast start enabled your Roku will turn off the network when it goes to sleep and get a new IP address when it is turned back on. With Fast start on it keeps the network on the Roku on so it keeps the same IP address on your network.

If true this is solvable with static IP for Roku saved in router
