In the ESPhome addin I have lots of nodes (ESPs). Often when i start a project it does not have a meaningful name - but when i have first named the node there is no (easy) way of renaming it.
That means that it can be quite difficult to remember that energy_2.yaml is the washing machine and not the fridge.
So the ability to rename or just to assign a friendly name to a node and to use that in the list, would be great.
This is something to take up with the developer of ESPHome, not the Home Assistant team.

ur properly right - but when the damage is done and and I need to clean up my mess I end up looking at posts like this and I think that maybe there should be a better way:
The developer is not having a WTH month and like @frenck writes in his introduction, github can be a steep hill (it is for noobs like me). So I just thought that there could be a ha solution somewhere out there.
There is a discord for esphome if you are uncomfortable with GitHub, however this is the preferred way to report issues for 90% of repositories out there
