Why use room presence detection for each room?

Do you know any interesting automations for room presence detection?
Why use it instead of general “movement” detection in a room?

  • My partner prefers cooler temperatures. So if they’re the only person in a room, set that room’s thermostat to n degrees. If anybody else is in the room, set it to n+2.
  • If I enter my home office in the morning, make sure the lights are how I prefer them and turn the PC on. Anyone else coming in doesn’t need my computer running.
  • If our infant child is the only one in his nursery, send both parents an alert if he’s making a fuss. If one of us is already there, only notify the other if there’s sustained noise.
