Hi, i have Homeassistant running since a 3/4 year on my little Intel Atom Server and i am thinking of a single Solution, so what are your experiences, is a PI3 or PI4 with HA-OS better than running on a Debian system?
How stable is it for long time runs on a PI and should there be a SSD/HDD or only a SD Card?
HA itself won’t run any more or less stable just based on the installation method.
There may be differences in the user experience based on install method. Core is harder to maintain, OS is strictly limited on what you can run alongside it or how much you can interact with it, supervised is…well…supervised.
I personally use Container since it gives the best balance of control and ease of maintenance.
The hardware you run it on will have the biggest impact on stability.
A Pi needs an SSD. You can get away with an SD card but why chance it if you don’t need to.
If you run anything other than OS you might benefit from a hardware upgrade. A NUC can be had fairly cheaply and you likely wont have any performance issues if you run other apps on the machine along with HA.
