Will rPi 3B+ or 4 be enough to control thermostats?

HA controls six radio thermostats from a PC. No cameras or any other demanding tasks.

I would like repurpose the current HA PC and use rPi that is collecting dust. I have a 3B+ and 4B (2GB) available.

Ideally a 3B+ would be good enough, so that the rPi4 can be used to upgrade a 3B+ serving up Nextcloud.

Can anyone provide insight if the 3B+ is enough to do the job?

I’m very sure it’ll be enough, but however I can’t say how much enough it is.
Setting up a new image with a backup is a matter of 10 minutes of work and 30 minutes of waiting (or so). I’d just do it.

(Until recently I used a RasPi 2 and I had it doing much more than 6 thermostats. Worked mostly fine but incredibly slow. I’m sure the 3 is nearer to the 4 performance wise.)

I use a 4B and it does a bunch of other things as well so I’m sure a 3B will be fine.

I agree with @MadCyborg though; it doesn’t take much to spin it up so just give it a go!

I have a 3B+ which does a lot more than that. I’d expect you won’t be taxing the hardware at all. But of course the best way to know for sure is to give it a try.
