Will running separate computer with HAOS for testing-swapping purposes mess stuff up

Main system running on an Intel NUC. I have installed HAOS on an Odroid N2+, I want to have that machine ready in case of a hardware failure of the NUC. After install on the Odroid, if I plug it into the network and turn it on, will it be assigned it’s own static IP for testing purposes, and will it mess up my production system?

I will not be plugging any coordinators into it, just want to see if it boots, see if I can install addons, keep it up to date.

Thanks

Only if you do that yourself

No, i run more than 1 HA too, no problems with that

Sorry, I meant will it be given a dynamic IP. I assume that is a YES.

Indeed, your DHCP-server will give it an address.

What will happen when I try to log in with a web browser using http://homeassistant.local:8123

That is unknown

before I used http://10.0.0.63:8123 and http://10.0.0.66:8123, these days it is https://home.mydomain.com and https://hatest.mydomain.com (running nginx proxy)

I guess you can name your second one something else, and use e.g hatest.local:8123

My experience is that you will get to your production system. You’ll need to use the IP address to get to your test system.

Thank you everyone

Cleanest way I think is to manually assign ip address in router. Then just go to specific_ip:8123. I do this for all my devices on network except mobile phones. Especially helpful for all the HA connectec devices.
