Good Afternoon,
I received an email today with the subject line “Wink API Usage Survey - Please Fill Out!”. I thought, why not, so I began and immediately stopped to create this post. It is not that I am excited about taking this, or any survey. I do wonder if being honest about my usage and reasoning behind it would throw up any flags. Is there any reason anyone can think of, that Wink would not like to see a bunch of survey results indicating the primary purpose for requesting access tokens is to control their platform with a superior platform? This is just a thought, I know so very little about the matter, I don’t even know what API stands for, I barely understand its function. I do know that I do not want to lose the use of my Lutron zigbee remotes.
Thank you all,
Adam
Feel free to respond and let them know what you are using it for. They wouldn’t provide a public API if they weren’t allowing users to make other (in this case better) products.
Having said that, I am the main Wink dev for Home Assistant and I just finished responding to it with all of the information I felt was relevant to all Wink/HA users. Mostly things that have caused users and me issues while using their API. The one thing that would be important for all users to ask for is real local control of all devices. HA is using an undocumented local control API for Wink and it doesn’t even allow for real local control for every device type. So when they ask what could we do better or whatever, say something like provide a public local control API to all device types, with local push updates.
Thank you for the response. I am glad I asked, if for nothing else, to make this request.
