Wink Hub vs Zwave Stick

Title says it all. I am trying to decide weather I should get a Zwave stick off amazon or buy a wink hub.

I’ll mostly have light switches and a few sensors, but I may have a few colored smart bubs.

I am wonder what the Pros and Cons would be.

Thanks in advance for your response.

I use both. If I can get a bulb, switch or outlet in zwave stick I will, but sometimes a device that I really want isn’t a zwave compatible device so i hook it up to wink. I prefer zwave stick because you host it locally vs needed internet access to wink’s cloud.

Follow up question. Is it possible to have wink as the primary controller and the zstick as secondary in the same zwave network? or viceversa?
If so, any advantages/disadvantages of doing so?

I don’t think so. I believe each device can only be controlled by one controller.

Also one thing to keep in mind not all zwave devices can be added to the Wink hub. I’ve had a few sensors that couldn’t be added to the Wink hub and only added to the zwave stick.

I would go one further and recommend a platform other than Wink, something like Vera. Wink is WAY more user friendly and pretty looking, but Vera is super stable and runs all locally. Also, removes the need for a USB stick… so if you want to docker later, its crazy easy.

I have both a Wink hub 2 and a Vera. I have an old Vera3 with no Zigbee and I bought the Wink Hub2 thinking I could just move everything there and get Zigbee at the same time- I have to say, I’m not super impressed with the latency per command as well as the stability of the Wink platform.

I think the vera unit’s are out my price range, thanks for the suggestion though.

I run a Wink 2 (for zigbee) and Zwave USB. Overall the Wink 2 is pretty stable and allows for local control through HA (to the best of my understanding). That being said, If I had it to do all over again I would not have used anything Zigbee and used only Zwave but due to wiring capabilities in my old house at the time, I resorted to using a lot of Cree bulbs (zigbee).

I picked up a couple of Wink Hub 1’s (one for home, one for beach shack) for $30 each from Amazon. Been running for months now without a hitch. Both managed by my single pi3b+ here at the homestead.

Does Wink2 not support zwave too? The product page says it does.
I’m wondering if I can use a Wink Hub to do both and communicate with random things like xiaomi switches etc.

Wink (both) does support zwave but when I started, I originally purchased the zwave usb stick then added Wink.

I no longer use Wink but only usb devices for zwave and zigbee now. (Means I have a Wink 1 and Wink 2 I could part with.) I opted for more local control as my internet connection can be unreliable and Wink doesn’t like that.
