Just throwing out an obvious question to clarify; you can perform a successful Wake On LAN command to this TV outside of HA, right?
Some TV’s are very finicky about this and can only wake up this way when using Ethernet or some only seem to be able by WiFi. I’ve had both.
That is a good question, I don’t no I’ve never tried.
Never had the need to. Maybe just get a new TV with google assistant built in.
As you haven’t shown us your configuration it is impossible to say.

Otherwise it depends on what Samsung TV version you have.
Many had the WOL not working due to the TV goes into a deep sleep and powers down both the Ethernet and Wi-Fi adapters. Those TVs can be woken up by IR or by HDMI CEC commands.
Also worth remembering that WOL is very unlikely to work on wifi.
Someone ever managed to wake up a (current / modern / latest) Samsung TV connected via wifi?
→ Edit: works with the Samsung TV integration even over wifi, no need for additional WoL integration.
→ Update: If the TV was unpowered before, it can’t be switched on using media_player.turn_on
service. I think in this case a WOL integration (or a simple press on the TV remote ) is needed. Once it is/was powered on, the media_player.turn_on
service is working. WOL using a Windows application was working with my TV so I guess the WOL integration of HA will do so too.
I am in the same case.
But if I put quotes around the “mac”, the wake_on_LAN entity, with TV off, stays active, but it still doesn’t turn on the TV, it just turns it off.
switch:
Estoy en el mismo caso.
Pero si pongo comillas en la “mac”, la entidad wake_on_LAN, con TV apagado queda activa, pero sigue sin enceder la TV, solo la apaga.
switch:
Which TV model do you have?
Thank you GSzabados.
Let’s start with the 2nd of 3 most modern.
Model: UE55ES7000
Gracias GSzabados.
Empezemos con la 2ª de 3 mas moderna.
Modelo: UE55ES7000
I believe those cannot be turned on with WoL.
But you can read more about that model and any Samsung TV here:
If you tinker with your TV that is your own responsibility.
Thank you very much, GSzabados.
I will look at the link.
Cheers

Just discovered this thread while troubleshooting using WOL over wifi and was pleasantly surprised that I can actually get my TV to wake up over wifi… sort of. Best I can tell, HA is actually using the API to turn on the tv, but even from the debug logs, it isn’t really clear. The issue I have is that it usually takes 2-3 attempts before the TV turns on. Is there any way to create an automation that is triggered from a service call? Something like,
Do {media_player.turn_on} until ( media_player.living_room_tv = on )?
I know this is an old thread but I ran across it when trying to get my Samsung TV to turn on. Like othes, I could turn it off but not on. Under network settings, there is a tab on mine labeled Expert Settings and there is a tab to allow the TV to turn on with a remote device like a smart phone. Selecting that now allows HA to turn it on.
You have just forgot to mention which TV model do you have. Many models do not support WoL at all.
