I’m in the middle of a new home build and i’m fighting a little with my builder because he is encouraging me to go with the Lutron RA3 system but I don’t want any proprietary BS in my house. So now I’m on a mission. I’m trying to find ELV dimmers that I can use with my HA setup. After getting HA running so well in my current home I really want to take it with me to the new place.
I use a combination of both Zigbee and Z-wave so either protocol is fine. Can anyone recommend any ELV dimmers? I searched here on and there isn’t a lot of posts. I also didn’t find a lot of options via Google.
What type of ELV lighting — in particular power supply / driver — are you trying to dim? The bulbs, driver, dimmer, and wall switch all have to work together, so it’s hard to recommend anything without knowing the full picture. The total and per-driver wattage is pretty important too. It also may depend on what region of the world you live in.
The most straightforward (in my opinion) solution for 12v LEDs is to get a dimmable driver (example), that accepts either 0-10v input or “universal” dimmer input from a “smart” wall switch that talks to HA. Generally the 0-10v option mainly if you have hundreds of watts and can’t route the total power through the switch, so again the answer is “it depends”.
