Won't Boot after installing HA on x64

Hi everyone,

New to HA and wanted to start getting it a try but today has been a long day…

I’ve repurposed an old desktop I had at work, Fujitsu Esprimo 556 - i3 6100, 8GB memory and 128SSD.

Followed the steps - installed/flashed Ubuntu on USB using Rufus (the Balena etcher wouldn’t work for me).

Loaded into Ubuntu.

Downloaded the HA image file. Selected my SSD to install it to.

After installing, I restarted the computer. Got the alert to remove the USB and press enter - did this and now I’m stuck on a black screen with Fujitsu logo.

I can’t enter BIoS or boot sequence. Tried restarting and pressing various buttons on keyboard… Can’t do anything but turn off and on and load to this screen.

Any help really appreciated!

Mike

Press F2 repeatedly
Or
F10
Or
F2
Or
F12
Or
F8

Yeah, I did try that … F2 has been to enter bios previously and f12 for boot menu but neither has worked?

So I tried removing the battery for 10 mins, and re-seating (read online) but still no change.

I haven’t had the machine open until now… I can’t imagine it’s hardware unless it’s very lucky…

Thinking I’ve bricked the computer now as just cannot get past this screen and no bios or boot menu.

As for Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo to enter the BIOS try as follows:

While the PC is OFF hold the F2-key on the keyboard. Now push the Power Button while keeping F2 pushed and only let go after you see the BIOS menu on the screen.

Addendum: Since you wrote the PC is old also make sure the CMOS battery is not depleted. Those batteries usually last ~ 3 years. Worth the try to simply change the CMOS battery (usually a CR2032).

Thank you  Tamsy! I’ll try this - pulling my hair out right now :person_facepalming:

Unfortunately neither option has worked.

It’s strange, it starts and the logo comes up, and then it just stops doing anything.

What happens if you remove HDD?
Wondering if it’ll show “no drive detected”?

I’ll try this and report back, thank you

Exactly the same thing. Just Fujitsu logo. Feel like I’m not even getting to the point where it’s checking for HDD?

Have you tried the ubumtu usb again?

Yeah, try with and without usb before and after removing the battery on the mobo which I read. :sob:

What steps?

Your sequence doesn’t look right. Let’s first make sure that your PC can boot from the USB. Flash the USB with Ubuntu. Boot the PC. You should get the “Try or Install” Ubuntu screen.

Hi stevemann,

Thanks for the reply.

I read the guide then watched a YouTube video by chuckbuilds.

I loaded Ubuntu onto usb flash drive and that loaded fine. I then installed HA to the PCs SSD and restarted. I then got the 'remove usb ’ message. I did that and restarted. After restarting I had the Fujitsu screen and cannot progress past there or enter bios or boot menu or anything

Any beep-sounds shortly after pushing the power button?

If the mobo has removable RAM modules unplug the power cord. Carefully remove the modules and clean the contact strips of the modules using contact cleaner and a clean cloth. Let it dry thoroughfully. Reinsert the RAM modules and try the boot process again.

Another possibility why the boot process stalls after the initial splash screen is a faulty power supply not providing enough power to continue beyond that splash screen. Could be corroded contacts. After unplugging the power cord remove and reinsert the power connectors coming from the power supply to the motherboard a couple of times.

What guide? Post a link, or are we playing 20-questions?

Whatever guide that is and wathever yt video the OP watched it has nothing to do with the issue he encounters. Since the Fujitsu Esprimo obviously wont even load into the BIOS the culprit is most probably a faulty hardware component: Either the motherboard or the GPU, the PS or a RAM module (which usually would result in a specific peep sequence though). A depleted CMOS battery is already ruled out.

Because…

The Fujitsu boots from the USB and apparently installs Ubuntu. I want to know the specific steps taken to get here.

@Pepz23 - Don’t repandly press the F2 button, turn on the computer then hold the F2 key until the BIOS configuration starts.
